Chennai Cyclone Status / Chennai Cyclone Live Updates / Chennai Cyclone Varadha Report : Accompanied by heavy rains and high-speed winds, cyclone Vardah defeated Chennai and the coastal districts of northern Tamil Nadu on Monday, killing four people in the state. The storm will cross in the coming hours, after which it will move west and is likely to emerge into the Arabian Sea on 14 December. The cyclone will turn into a “hurricane storm” within 3-4 hours ahead, said India Meteorological Department (IMD). The cyclone that caused severe destruction by uprooting trees, damaging houses, disrupting power services, land and air transport and throwing normal life out of gear.

The cyclone killed four people in the state and led to the evacuation of thousands of people from the lower areas. The government deployed 7 NDRF teams and 2 of each SDRF and Army column, which conducted the necessary rescue operations. Interior Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam and inquired about the situation following Hurricane Vardah through Chennai and Tiruvallur.
The government issued a red alert. SriLankan Airlines said all its flights to Chennai were canceled until Tuesday morning after authorities issued a red alert due to severe cyclonic storm “Vardah” which made a grounding in Tamil Nadu. Services at Chennai Airport were suspended until 9 pm on Monday.
