What is interesting is that ‘Raees’ surpassed the collections of last year’s Republic Day – Akshay Kumar ‘Airlift’ release, thus becoming the biggest Bollywood grosser of having released in January. It is a general belief in Bollywood that movies coming out in the first month of the year fail to make a mark at the box office. However, the release of Shah Rukh seems to have broken the January jinx. ‘Raees’ is doing well on the international market too. Unfortunately, the film was banned from going to Pakistan. According to reports, the Central Commission of Censorship decided not to release the film since “content undermines Islam and a specific religious sect”.
‘Raees’ clashed at the box office with ‘Kaabil’ by Hrithik Roshan. The two films reached the screens on 25 January.

Shah Rukh Khan has always benefited from a wide range of fans across the seas, actually the actor’s previous film testify to this fact with the huge collections they have managed to rake in. Now, unlike the classic release model Which sees Bollywood films release a day Earlier in the overseas markets, Rahul Dholakia directed the film Raees with Shah Rukh Khan saw a simultaneous release in overseas and domestic markets.
